• Whitehall Principal

    Hello Whitehall Families,

I hope that you are having an amazing start to your summer and enjoying your time together as a family. I want to share information about upcoming events/dates and reminders for your planning needs.

    • Summer Activities- Don't forget to continue to work on letter and number recognition, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and writing. It's never too late to start. Make it fun and spend a little time each day working on these areas. We also want to encourage each student to spend 15 minutes a day reading. If you need ideas or helpful tips please click on the links below:
    • Breakfast & Lunch Information- the Norristown Area School District will continue to provide free breakfast and lunch to all students, regardless of their economic eligibility, during the 2018-2019 school year. If parents wish to put money on their student’s account for extra servings and a la carte (snack) purposes only, they may do so. Pre-payment will be accepted through the Breakfast or Lunch lines or at myschoolbucks.com
    • Our summer mailing, which includes homeroom teacher assignments and other important school policy information, is tentatively scheduled for the end of August.
      • Student placement is a very complex process and is taken very seriously by our Whitehall team. We take many variables into account:
        • Careful consideration for the educational needs and learning style of each child.
        • Factors that relate to programs such as special education, speech, gifted & talented, English language learners, and other related services.
        • Parental input that focuses on instructional factors, social and emotional needs and family relationships.
        • Peer social dynamics, health needs, and gender ratios are important considerations.
        • Overall class makeup to create a productive, caring, academically balanced, and successful learning environment.
      • We appreciate that you accept school placement decisions as final. Thank you.
    • Kindergarten orientation is scheduled for Thursday, August 30, 2018 from 9:30 – 11:00.  Kindergarten families will receive more information in the August mailing.
      • Tuesday, September 4, 2018 is the first regular session of school for kindergarten.
    • The first day of school is Tuesday, September 4, 2018 for grades K-4.  Our school day begins with homeroom at 9:05 AM and ends at 3:20 PM. Staff supervision of students begins at 8:40 AM at the main entrance, and breakfast begins at 8:40 AM as well. After 9:10 AM, all students must report to the office with an adult before entering the building.
    • NEW: Front Drop off & Pick Up Change- For safety & security reasons, parents, guardians, and visitors will be asked to no longer park directly in front of the building (driveway-loop) when dropping off or picking up during arrival and dismissal times. Please park in the main parking lot. The front driveway will only be used for buses and emergency vehicles. We will continue to use the car-rider area in the main parking lot for AM & PM drop off and pick up. Car-rider drop off is from 8:50 - 9:10 AM & pick up is from 3:20 - 3:40 PM. Students who are having breakfast can be dropped off at 8:40 AM.
    • PSSA testing window (students in grades 3 & 4)
      • National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) - Mathematics & Reading (4th only)
      • English Language Arts is April 15 – April 26, 2019
      • Mathematics & Science is April 29 – May 3, 2019
      • Test administration is scheduled to begin at 9:30 on testing days
      • Please avoid these dates when planning to miss school where possible.
    • We will continue to update our school calendar to include all events and activities. Please tune into our WES website & calendar as well as our Facebook & Twitter page.
    • The 2018-2019 school supply list is also on our WES webpage.
    • The school office will be closed most of the summer. Our new secretary Miss Ramos will begin on August 13th. Please email Mrs. Kirksey if you have any questions or call the Administration building at 610-630-5000 if you have any questions pertaining to the upcoming school year.

Lastly, I would like to extend best wishes to you and your family, and hope you enjoy a safe and relaxing summer.

    Rachel Kirksey
