Norristown Area School District’s Academic Plan is designed to provide a structure for our work and a common framework for instruction, for school organization and for regular measures of progress. We promote excellence and equity ineducation designed to ensure our young people receive a high-quality education across the grade levels. We understand that students who succeed in a challenging instructional program are better prepared for success from the earliest grades through adulthood. Our goal is to support the high academic achievement of all students by providing rigorous, comprehensive educational programs and instructional practices that form a solid foundation in order to prepare students for success.
The four initiatives within the Academic Plan that drive instructional effectiveness and student achievement are:
1. Authentic Literacy
2. Select Teaching Strategies
3. Framework for Instruction
4. Rigorous Curriculum
The Norristown Area School District began implementing the Common Core State Standards in Mathematics and Language Arts during the 2011-2012 school year. The Common Core State Standards provide a consistent, clear understanding of what students are expected to learn, so teachers and parents know what they need to do to help them. The standards are designed to be robust and relevant to the real world, reflecting the knowledge and skills that our young people need for success in college and careers.
