Daycare transportation Update.
Beginning with the 2015-16 school year, NASD will be offering transportation to students in grades K-4 only. (We currently offer this courtesy to students in Grades K-5)
The Norristown Area School District provides daily transportation to the following: 11 public schools, 57 non-public schools, 1 charter school, and 20 approved private placements. This amounts to approximately 6,500 students riding on approximately 300 bus routes and 70 car/van routes making in excess of 1,000 bus stops each day.
The department also transports students for the following:
· Educational trips
· Sports trips
· Band trips
· After school activities (late bus)In order to accomplish this, the Norristown Area School District uses 14 district buses and contracted vehicles including contracts with: First Student, Balgo Co. Inc., TransNet Co., Germantown Cab Co., and Montgomery County Intermediate Unit.
NASD transports the following students based on House Bill 1480 and Act No. 372:
-Public and non-public students in Grades K-5 who live more than 1.5 miles from school.
-Public and non-public students in Grades 6-12 who live more than two miles from school.
-Special Education students to schools of assignment based on their IEP.
-Those students who live along state defined hazardous roadways.
-Students declared HomelessThe Norristown Area School District requires students to report to their assigned bus stop 10 minutes before the scheduled stop time and wait for ten minutes after the scheduled time to allow buses a 20 minute window to deal with possible traffic, weather, student problems, etc.NASD and First Student buses are monitored by a GPS system to help ensure a safe, secure and efficient transport. This system allows us to track the location, direction, speed and time of stops for our vehicles. We also have a hotline where you can contact us after normal hours. This line puts you in touch with a live person to address your emergency. The number is 484-390-1735.
The decisions not to open the schools or to delay their opening will be announced on TV channels KYW-3, ABC-6, NBC-10, and FOX-29.
