Norristown Area School District Recognizes Juneteenth as a District Holiday
The Norristown Area School District will be joining a growing number of local businesses and organizations in declaring Juneteenth a holiday. Therefore, all schools, offices, and district operations will be closed this Friday, June 19, 2020, in observance of the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending slavery in the United States. “We hope that our acknowledgment of the importance of this day as a district holiday will add to the growing momentum for this day to be recognized as a national holiday,” said Superintendent Christopher Dormer.
To be respectful of families that have made arrangements to participate in our drive through graduation on Friday, we will continue with this event as scheduled. Dormer added, “we are grateful to have teacher volunteers and administrative volunteers to fully staff the event so our students and families can be with us to celebrate receiving their diplomas and Juneteenth as a family and as a community.”
