Joint Statement Regarding Alternate Athletic Scheduling

On September 23, 2020 the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association voted to allow member schools to pursue alternate athletic schedules if the pandemic prohibited the resumption of regularly scheduled athletic seasons. Together, nine PIAA District One schools are thrilled to announce an agreement to work together to provide our fall student-athletes with the chance to play in the spring of 2021. The following schools are proud to be a part of this agreement: Academy Park, Cheltenham, Chester, Chichester, Harry S. Truman, Interboro, Norristown Area, Penn Wood, Reading.

The Schools named above are able to play in the traditional PIAA winter and spring seasons and will be eligible to compete in District One and PIAA playoffs in those seasons. This scheduling agreement is specific to the alternate season for fall sports. The timeline for this alternate fall season is tentatively scheduled to begin with practices on March 1 and contests being held March 12 to April 16.

Each of the schools represented in this agreement is appreciative of the support we have received from the Berks County Interscholastic Athletic Association, the Del-Val League, the Pioneer Athletic Conference, and the Suburban One League. We would like to thank the leadership of both the PIAA and District One for their support in finding a way for our student-athletes to compete. We will continue to work with our respective administrations, school boards, local and county leadership to ensure that safety remains a top priority. Most of all, we look forward to seeing our student-athletes competing against each other, representing the great schools and communities which are represented in this agreement.
