Norristown Area School District mourns the loss of John Sweeney

NASD family, it is with great sadness to announce the passing of long time educator Mr. John Sweeney. John served the Norristown Area School District for 44 years prior to his retirement in 2014. John started out in Norristown in 1970 as a teacher at Stewart Middle School. He also served the district as building principal at Burnside Elementary, Hancock Elementary and Marshall Street Elementary School.

"Mr. Sweeney cared about our community and anyone who entered his building as principal. He is the reason for my success as a student at Marshall Street Elementary School," said Shae Ashe, Board President of NASD. "Countless others can say the same about Mr. Sweeney and the impact he made. On behalf of the Board of School Directors, we extend our deepest condolences to his family and all who knew him."

John had a way about him making everyone feel like a dear friend. His door was always open to talk about anything and everything. Regardless of the challenges he may have had along the way, everyone who'd ever had the privilege of working with John, always found him a special pleasure to work with.

John will be profoundly missed by everyone whose lives he touched along his travels. Needless to say, the NASD family will all miss him more than words can express.

At this time please keep the Sweeney family in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you!
