2022 MiniTHON Raises over $12,000!
Norristown Area High School held its first annual Mini-THON on Friday April 1. Mini-THON is an event aimed at raising funds to support the work of Four Diamonds and the Penn State Hershey Children's Hospital and their continued fight to conquer childhood cancer. Every year, schools across Pennsylvania hold similar events, all with a common goal. Mini-THON is inspired by THON, the annual Penn State University event which, to date, has raised more than $190 million for cancer research and support. Since its inception in 1993, the Mini-THON program has cumulatively raised more than $52 million to help conquer childhood cancer.
The NAHS goal was set at $10,000 for the event, including prior fundraising and an online donor drive campaign. Through the efforts of NAHS students, along with the support of NASD faculty, staff, parents and administration, that goal was surpassed as the event raised over $12,000 for Four Diamonds. A special thanks to the NAHS National Honor Society, Mini-THON chairman Layla Chaaraoui, Honor Society officers Madeline Plummer (President), Esined Martinez-Torres (Vice President), Gabriella Garcia (Secretary), Jane Baker (Treasurer) and National Honor Society Advisors Kirstin Colloton and Steve DiNenno.
The event on April 1 was family-friendly and included games, prizes, food and drink, performances by NAHS student groups, and testimonials from NASD students and staff whose lives were touched by cancer. It was an evening filled with laughter, tears, and a whole lot of fun.
The next NAHS Mini-THON is already being planned. Look for more information at the start of the 2022-2023 school year.
