Norristown, PA – A comprehensive search to find the next Assistant Superintendent of Schools for the Norristown Area School District (NASD) will end on Monday, October 22, when the Board of School Directors is set to vote to approve a three-year contract with Dr. Yolanda Williams during a regularly scheduled Board meeting.

"Dr. Williams is an excellent fit for the Norristown Area School District. She possesses the skills, drive, and vision the district and our community are looking for in our next leader,” said Christopher Dormer, Superintendent of Schools. “Dr. Williams is committed to continuing to move the district forward and we are excited for her to get started.”

Dr. Williams is an experienced educator and school leader with over 20 years in public school education. Dr. Williams began her career as a high school English teacher, acting as team leader during her time. After serving ten years in the classroom, Dr. Williams served as a supervisor of secondary instruction and then as a principal for the Reading School District. Dr. Williams subsequently moved into the Pottsgrove School District where she carried out a number of roles including high school assistant principal and principal. Most recently, Dr. Williams has served as principal of Lower Pottsgrove Elementary School in the Pottsgrove School District.

Dr. Williams earned her bachelor’s of English education at Millersville University. She received her master’s in educational administration from Our Lady of Holy Cross College and her doctorate in educational leadership from Gwynedd Mercy University.

“We are very proud that our district’s reputation for excellence attracted so many highly qualified candidates,” said Mr. Dormer. “Our search efforts yielded a diverse pool of 56 applicants. We were extremely pleased with the caliber of the candidates and both the Board of School Directors and I are confident that we have selected an outstanding educational leader to help guide the district and continue our tradition of excellence. We look forward to working with Dr. Williams for many years to come.”

NASD received 56 applicants for the position. From those, 20 highly qualified candidates were selected to be interviewed. After an exhaustive, multi-round interview process that fully involved the Board and the Superintendent, a thorough vetting of the top candidate was conducted with a rigorous and extensive background and reference check.

“It is a very exciting time in the district and we thank everyone for their patience and support during this crucial process,” said Mr. Dormer. “We are looking forward to introducing Dr. Williams to the community over the coming months and will communicate those opportunities directly with our families and community stakeholders.”

Dr. Williams’s contract will begin on January 1, 2019, and she will be in place as students return from winter break.
