Marshall Street Elementary is excited to launch another year of celebrating positive behavior through Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports, or PBIS! Our PBIS kick-off assemblies are happening tomorrow (9/17), and we look forward to reminding students how their everyday choices help make our school a respectful, responsible, and safe community.
What Does PBIS Mean at Marshall Street?
At Marshall Street, we recognize and celebrate students who demonstrate our Top 3 Expectations: respect, responsibility, and safety. We believe that positive behavior deserves positive attention, and we work together to help every student grow, succeed, and feel proud of their choices.
School-Wide Rewards and Incentives
From October through May, students can participate in several school-wide recognition programs:
Brag Tags: Students can earn brag tags for achievements such as perfect attendance, academic improvement, academic excellence, hard work in special-area classes, Golden Jaguar recognition, and more. Students collect their brag tags on key chains that can be attached to book bags or lanyards. ALL students will get their very first brag tags (the blue one) after the assembly tomorrow!
Jaguar Pride Points: Any staff member may award Jaguar Pride Points when a student demonstrates respect, responsibility, or safety. Points are recorded digitally in our PBIS Room and can be exchanged for rewards such as extra recess, lunch bunch with a preferred adult, extra time with a preferred adult, or extra specials time. Students with the highest point totals each trimester may also receive special rewards, including school swag or other prizes.
Golden Jaguar: Each month, teachers and staff select a Golden Jaguar who demonstrates our Top 3 Expectations and goes above and beyond. Golden Jaguars receive a certificate, a special Golden Jaguar brag tag (the paw print tag shown above), and Jaguar Pride Points. Their photo is also displayed in our Golden Jaguar display case for the following month.
Earn Your Spot: Each month, students have the opportunity to earn their spot at special activities, such as a dance party, a special lunch treat, or a choice club activity like making friendship bracelets. Students earn their spot by meeting school-wide expectations based on grade-level criteria. Every month is a fresh start!
Our classroom teachers also celebrate positive behavior in their own ways, including specific verbal praise, positive communication with families, and special reward experiences.
We are excited to celebrate our Jaguars and their successes all year long! Together, we will make this a positive, encouraging, and rewarding school year.
