🪨✨ Future Rock Hounds in Mrs. Altieri’s Class! ✨🪨

Mrs. Altieri’s First Grade class was treated to a very special guest today! A huge thank you to Judge Alfarano for visiting and teaching our students all about being “Rock Hounds.”

Our first graders had the opportunity to explore, observe, and learn about different types of rocks — asking thoughtful questions and examining unique specimens up close. The excitement and curiosity in the room were incredible!

Hands-on learning experiences like this help bring science to life and spark a love of discovery in our young scholars.

Thank you, Judge Alfarano, for sharing your time and expertise with our students! 🪨🔍

🎶📚 A Powerful Culmination to Black History Month at Paul V. Fly! ✊🏾✨

As we concluded our celebration of Black History Month, we were honored to welcome a very special virtual guest reader — Chief Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Officer, Steven V. Willis — who joined our classrooms this afternoon.

Mr. Willis read Change Sings: A Children’s Anthem by Amanda Gorman and beautifully engaged our students in a meaningful story about voice, courage, unity, and the power each of us has to create positive change in the world. 🌎💛
To commemorate this special culminating activity, every student received a Black History Month sticker as a reminder that learning about history, culture, and belonging is something we carry with us beyond just one month.

Thank you, Mr. Willis, for inspiring our students and helping us close out Black History Month with purpose and pride. At PVF, we continue to honor the past, celebrate the present, and empower our students to shape the future. ❤️🖤💚

We had a wonderful time at our Parent Workshop: Understanding Your Child’s Reading & Math Data!

It was great to see families come together to learn more about how to read assessment reports, understand student progress, and discover ways to support learning at home. Parents asked thoughtful questions, shared ideas, and gained helpful tools to better understand their child’s strengths and next steps in both reading and math.

Thank you to all the families who attended and made it such a positive and collaborative experience. When schools and families work together, our students thrive! 💙

It was a special week celebrating the kindness our Paul V. Fly students show each and every day! 💕

Throughout Kindness Week, staff members recognized students who went above and beyond to demonstrate compassion, respect, and leadership toward others. From helping classmates without being asked, to including others at recess, to using encouraging words during challenging moments — these actions truly reflect the heart of our school community.

Here are some of our “Caught Being Kind” winners! We are so proud of the positive example they set for others. Keep leading with kindness, Pandas! 🐼✨

❤️🖤💚 Celebrating Black History Month in First Grade! ❤️🖤💚

Our first graders have been learning about inspiring Black history heroes who made a difference through courage, leadership, creativity, and perseverance. Students had thoughtful discussions about how these individuals helped shape our country and continue to inspire us today.

To connect their learning, students created a beautiful Freedom Quilt, representing hope, unity, and the importance of standing up for what is right. Each square reflects their understanding that every voice matters and that we can all make a positive impact.

We are so proud of our first graders for engaging in meaningful conversations and honoring the legacy of those who paved the way. 💛

🌿🔬 STEM in Action at PVF! 🔬🌿

Our 4th grade scholars were hard at work during yesterday’s STEM challenge focused on Biomimicry — the practice of studying and imitating nature’s models, systems, and processes to solve complex human problems and design more sustainable, efficient solutions.

Students were challenged to design and build a survival tool, drawing inspiration from nature — all while making direct connections to their Wit & Wisdom novel, Hatchet. As they read about Brian’s survival journey, students applied critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills to design tools that could help someone survive in the wilderness.

Hands-on learning + literature connections + innovative thinking = powerful learning! 💡📚

Check out the photos to see our young engineers in action!
