Second grade students learned about Mexican American artist Carmen Lomas Garza and discussed her beautiful papel picado artwork. They created their own papel picado art using tissue paper, shapes and scissors! Check out their work hanging in the school lobby.

Kindergarten celebrated Dot Day by reading The Dot and learning about artist Wassily Kandinsky. The message “just make a mark and see where it takes you” was important! Then they drew and painted their own dots in Kandinsky’s style.

Last week, MSS welcomed local author Melissa Trempe, who shared her new book *Ladybug Launch* with grades K-4. She hosted a writing workshop for 4th graders and inspired all with her message of perseverance: "never give up" on the path to publication! #AuthorVisit #Inspiration
