Third grade had a busy day. We “Dropped Everything to Read” and then went outside to celebrate the end of PSSA with a delicious water ice party.
Ms. Hohenstein and Ms. McCormick’s class celebrated Cinco de Mayo with a full day of fun, learning, and hands on experiences! Students explored traditions connected to the holiday while engaging in meaningful classroom activities.
The classes focused on the picture book Dragons Love Tacos to support comprehension, sequencing, and communication skills. Throughout the day, themed activities were used to target each student’s individual learning goals. Students also enjoyed a special food experience, learning about tacos and trying concha bread (a big thanks to the classroom families who donated concha bread!) It was a joyful and engaging day filled with culture, creativity, and learning.

The students are rewarded with a medal, a prize, and due to a partnership with the Elmwood Park Zoo two free admission tickets to the zoo. Whitehall students competed in the Montgomery County Reading Olympics. The students demonstrated their knowledge of the extensive book list and earned a Red Ribbon. Congratulations to all who participated!

Yesterday our third grade students took part in an “Unlocking Acceptance” breakout activity in honor of Autism Acceptance Month.
At Whitehall, we understand that a big part of acceptance is understanding. Students learned factual information about autism and used their new knowledge to solve clues, complete challenges, and ultimately “unlock acceptance.”
Through teamwork and critical thinking, it was amazing to see students collaborating and supporting one another. They are now able to take what they’ve learned into their communities helping spread even more acceptance and understanding for autism.
