Flexible Instructional Days

The Pennsylvania Department of Education has approved our district’s application to use up to five (5) Flexible Instructional Days (FID) when inclement weather disrupts our normal operations. For the past several years, we successfully used technology to continue with virtual instruction days when we otherwise would have needed to close schools due to inclement weather.

Please be sure that students bring technology home with them so they will be able to participate remotely via Google Meet, Schoology, Google Classroom, and other online platforms. Should we need to transition to a virtual learning day, we will follow a modified schedule. Live, synchronous lessons will be provided in the morning, with limited, asynchronous activities in the afternoon. Transitioning to virtual learning during days of inclement weather allows us to maintain continuity of our instructional programs while not extending the school year deeper into June.

Families will be notified of a Flexible Instructional Day through phone, email, and text alerts. Updates will also be posted on the district and school websites, social media channels, and shared with local news outlets.

Families should expect additional communication from each of your children’s principals regarding school specific virtual learning schedules and expectations. Staff members will be contacted by their direct supervisors with work expectations on any virtual learning days. Decisions to utilize virtual learning days will be made based on the severity, duration, and impact of any storm to ensure that everyone remains safe and healthy and can fully engage in teaching and learning when offered.
