Superintendent of Schools

Mr. Dormer joined the Norristown Area School District in 2016.  He began his career in public education as an Instructional Assistant in the Lower Merion School District. He worked 13 years in the Upper Darby School District, serving as a Biology teacher, coach, Assistant Athletic Director, and Athletic Director at Upper Darby High School before moving into administration in 2005 as an Assistant Principal.  He then was named Principal of Upper Darby High School in 2008, a role he held for five years. Mr. Dormer was Principal of Oxford Area High School for three years before coming to Norristown Area School district as Assistant Superintendent. He was appointed Superintendent of Schools in August 2018.

Mr. Dormer earned his Bachelor’s degree from LaSalle University and his Master’s degree in Education from Cabrini University. He earned his Principal’s certification at St. Joseph’s University and completed his doctoral coursework and Superintendent’s Letter of Eligibility at Neumann University.  During the 2007-2008 school year, Mr. Dormer was honored as the Pennsylvania Assistant Principal of the Year by the Pennsylvania Association of Elementary and Secondary School Principals and the National Association of Secondary School Principals.

Mr. Dormer currently serves as the President of the Pennsylvania League of Urban Schools, the PLUS Caucus of PASA, the Pennsylvania Association of School Administrators. He previously served as the PLUS Caucus Secretary. He is a member of the PASA Board of Governors and serves on PASA's Professional Development Committee.

In the area of educational advocacy, Mr. Dormer is one of the founding members of LEARN, the Leaders for Educational Accountability and Reform Network. He also serves as a member of the MCIU Superintendents Legislative Committee.

In our community, Mr. Dormer is a member of the Rotary Club of Norristown and a board member of the Friends of the Montgomery County-Norristown Public Library.

Mr. Dormer lives in Aston, PA, with his wife, Michele, and three children. He enjoys reading, golfing, small scale building and construction, camping, and spending time with his family.

Assistant Superintendent

Dr. Yolanda Williams became Assistant Superintendent of Norristown Area School District in January 2019, and she comes to us with teaching and administrative experience in both urban and suburban settings.  Her career as an educator began as an English teacher in Yigo, Guam in 1994. From there, she had the opportunity to teach in New Orleans and the Reading School District before becoming an administrator in 2004.  As an instructor, she has been awarded Most Creative Teacher during her first year of teaching and was later recognized as the Teacher of the Year for her building while teaching in New Orleans.  Dr. Williams has a sincere passion for the success and advancement of all students.

With fifteen years of experience as an administrator, Dr. Williams has served students in the capacity of instructional supervisor and building level principal at the elementary, middle, and high school levels.  As a result of her diverse background, she has gained an extensive knowledge base of teaching and learning which has equipped her to assist with the advancement of Norristown students. Also, her servant and collaborative leadership styles promote a culture designed to consider the academic and social needs of all children.

Dr. Williams is committed to working with her team to prepare the students of the Norristown Area School District with a quality education via standards-based and culturally responsive curricula, research-based instructional strategies, interventions, and meaningful professional development to equip teachers and staff to meet the various needs of our student body.

As a native of Philadelphia, Dr. Williams was a student in the Philadelphia Public School District.  She earned her Bachelor of Science in English Education from Millersville University; a Masters in Educational Leadership from Our Lady of Holy Cross College in New Orleans, LA and a Doctorate in Education from Gwynedd Mercy University.

In her free time, she enjoys reading, shopping, and spending quality time with her husband, their three children, and their family's dog.

As an educator, my decision-making and actions are rooted in the desire to witness the academic and social advancement of all students.  Ethically, I must lead and operate with evidence of integrity, compassion, strength, and courage for the benefit of students, parents, and staff regardless of their lot in life or demographics.
