Norristown Area School District believes that robust literacy skills - reading, writing, speaking, and listening - are essential in developing responsible, self-motivated, and engaged learners across all disciplines. We also believe that strong literacy skills are critical in ensuring student success beyond the walls of the NASD classrooms.

Our 5-12 English Language Arts (ELA) curricular offerings for ELA are in accordance with the Pennsylvania Department of Education Core Academic Standards. We follow a structured literacy approach grounded in the Science of Reading, and use high-quality instructional materials with each of our students.

Wit & Wisdom (5-8): All of our 5-8 classrooms use Wit & Wisdom as their ELA curriculum material. Wit & Wisdom is a comprehensive English Language Arts curriculum material, aligned to the Pennsylvania Department of Education Core Academic Standards, that provides students with instruction in reading, writing, speaking, and listening with the use of rich authentic texts that build student knowledge on a range of topics.

ODELL (9-12): Odell Education (OE) is the high-quality instructional material used in our 9-12 ELA classrooms. OE is a student-centered program that fosters student creativity and critical thinking which is vital for academic success. Students explore a wide variety of classic and contemporary authors and texts to build knowledge about literacy skills and content that is important for high school students to thrive in new endeavors beyond high school.
